About: Duas Quintas - A rural bed and breakfast near Silves

Duas Quintas means ‘two farms’, and this describes how the property was, when bought in 2005, before renovation work began.

Before becoming a rural Algarve guest house, Duas Quintas was a thriving fruit and vegetable farm. Neighbors to Duas Quintas still comment on the farm in its former glory, when workers from around the valley gathered for harvesting and planting, sometimes staying overnight, eating together under the stars. Many of these fruits are still grow at Duas Quintas, and guests are served fresh orange juice for breakfast picked from the surrounding orange groves. In season you can also enjoy fresh figs, peaches, tangerines, Clementines, lemons and plums as well as homemade jams and preserves.

The current car parking area was one of the two ‘ eiras ‘ on the property. An ‘eira is an ols style threshing floor. The swimming pool is the location of the second  ‘eira’. The supporting walls of the original ‘eira’ were incorporated to form the support structure of the pool. A little beyond the swimming pool, the ruins of a small chapel lies buried under the orange trees and local folklore tells of a hermit who once lived on the land.

There are many legacies of traditional farming methods, including the two large water tanks and the amazing well with its old stone steps and antiquated pumping machinery.
